Our Scouting Community:
2020 brings some significant changes to Scouting and the Order of the Arrow, and I look at this as an opportunity to get back to basics and really promote the OA at a grass roots level.
I stayed in scouting because of the Order of the Arrow. The program presented multiple leadership opportunities as well as a community that was bound together by principles that I was completely sold on. The Order of the Arrow, I grew up with, was a culture of inclusiveness that made everyone in our communities feel welcome.
This upcoming year is going to be a rebuilding time for Grand Canyon Council and Wipala Wiki lodge, and I am looking forward to being a part of this. We have an opportunity to be a part of something special that hopefully will leave a lasting legacy for the next generation.
I challenge everyone to go back to their units and promote the lodge and recruit talent. It is critical to create a culture that welcomes everyone and as Scouting’s National Honor Society, we must embody and exemplify the values and principals of our organization. This includes promoting diversity across our membership and leadership opportunities, as we need to evolve into a true reflection of the communities we call home and serve. Scouting has gone through significant changes recently and we are very fortunate to now welcome diverse thinking and perspectives to the table as we shape the future steps for our Lodge.
My vision and focus, for this year, is to build strong relationships with our unit leaders as well as our membership. Areas of attention will include elections, retention and growth. In addition, I challenge everyone to get behind the youth leadership and support them 100%.
Again, I am so honored to have been given this opportunity to serve and give back to a program that has given me so much. I look forward to this year and creating a positive culture for the lodge that will inspire the next generation.
